You’re Growing Too: A Gentle Reminder for New Moms

Whoever came up with the idea of a baby blanket for monthly newborn photos throughout the first year is brilliant. After my first two babies, I was too frugal to buy one, but when I was pregnant with the twins, a dear aunt gifted me one. I had no idea then just how much of a blessing it would be.

That first year (and then some) was a blur—just as it is for every new mother. The newborn phase slips away inexplicably slowly and quickly, all at once.

The growth in those first 12 months is nothing short of miraculous. Every tiny milestone, every new expression—it’s incredible to witness.

But here’s something we often overlook: you are changing, too. Physically, emotionally, mentally, personally, spiritually. Some changes bring healing and growth, while others feel painful or even self-destructive. And sometimes, real, lasting change feels impossible without outside support—from a counselor, a physician, a friend, or family.

I know this struggle well. I am fiercely self-reliant and an internal processor—a combination that, left unchecked, can be toxic. Do you know someone who struggles to name their feelings or admit their challenges? Maybe it’s you. That’s one of the reasons I created the Grace-Filled Postpartum Journal—to provide a simple space for reflection and growth.

If vulnerability feels impossible, take heart—the Lord already knows. And remember, we were never meant to grow alone. We were made for community—with Him and with others.

Just as your baby’s growth is a miracle, so is your own. Motherhood is refining, stretching, and deeply transformative. Even on the longest days (and even longer nights), you are growing in ways you may not yet see.

Take a moment today to reflect—how have you changed in the past year? Where do you see growth, and where do you need support? Hit Reply and let us know!
